Immigration, Justice, & Civil Liberties
Our country must maintain high standards for our immigration control, safety, and freedoms. Our policies for this are:
-
End low-wage low-skill immigration and pursue high-skill immigration.
-
Ensure dependents are fully financially supported by the main sponsor.
-
Ending unsafe boat crossings by introducing an asylum visa that can be applied for from outside the UK at UK embassies.
-
Process the asylum backlog. Ensure safe return for those whose claims are rejected, as well as those with no right to stay here (overstaying visas).
-
End immigration detention of children.
-
Expand international student visas subject to housing availability. International students bring high levels of tuition fees and spending into the economy, better funding research.
-
Increase domestic NHS training pipelines and capacity while reducing reliance on healthcare visa workers.
-
Decriminalise drugs (similar to the Portugal model). Dealers to still be prosecuted, and small personal possession to be met with healthcare referral. Legalise and regulate cannabis.
-
Adopt a rehabilitative approach to justice. Shift mental health and drug addiction cases away from the police and into the healthcare system.
-
Enshrine a right to protest.
-
Ban live facial recognition by private and public bodies.
-
Clear the court backlog by investing in judicial infrastructure.
-
Allocate more resources for crimes that are under-investigated and under-prosecuted, including domestic abuse and sexual violence.
