Democracy

The UK is a democracy influenced by wealth and distorted by the voting system. A billionaire can outdonate a worker by millions. A party can win 30% of the votes and 60% of the seats. The policies to fix this include:

  • Adopt a listless MMP proportional representation electoral system. Every voter receives one vote at the ballot to vote for a candidate who represents a party or no party. Everyone who wins their constituency gets to be an MP. Afterwards, calculations are used on the national scale to determine proportional seat allocation (Sainte-Lague method) and best losers from each party are added to parliament as needed.

  • Ban private political donations (direct and in kind) and implement a publicly funded allowance of £4 per voter per year (£1 per quarter/3 months) to allocate to registered parties of their choice (or independent candidates).

  • Parties are not allowed to make expenditures that are permanent (i.e. acquiring property). All expenditures must be temporal.
