Workers Rights & Public Services

The UK has not had real wage growth since 2008. Workers' negotiating power and freedom to organise has reduced. Public services have been cut and this has impacted communities. The policies to address this include:

​

• Give workers full freedom to organise unions by repealing acts restricting unions from 1980–2016, only keeping legislative amendments that protect workers.

​

• Giving every worker the right to join a union in exchange for allocating part of their own tax. Example: a worker in the 20% tax bracket can pay 19% tax and 1% union membership rather than 20%. Union membership remains voluntary. Workers must be informed of this option at their workplace.

​

• Right to work remotely for jobs that don't need physical presence.

​

• Calculate the state pension according to the cost of living of the pensioner. No triple lock.

​

• Change the welfare withdrawal rate to 20p for every £1 worked to make working worth it.

​

• Increase domestic NHS training pipelines and capacity while reducing reliance on healthcare visa workers.

​

• Wipe out all student loans, providing an effective tax cut worth billions for the working class.

​

• Fully funded university entitlement for every home student (up to 1 bachelor's and 1 master's).

​

• Practical professional employable qualifications to be offered in schools, including the Care Certificate and CSCS (construction card).

​

• Mandatory leftover edible food redistribution by restaurants and supermarkets directly or through food bank networks at the end of the day to reduce food waste.

​

• Policies to put ownership and control of workplaces in the hands of workers as per the Economic Growth & Industry section.

​

• Nationalise social care providers and provide care for free at point of use, establishing a national care service or integrating care into the NHS, with the same principle applying to dental and optical care.

​

• Free prescriptions for every patient.

​

• Nationalise rail and bus operators, establish regional operators, and run public transport at cost or free at the point of use.

​

• Free childcare for children aged 0-5 during working hours.

​

• Universal school meals for all children.

​

• Nationalised broadband infrastructure.

​

• Expand free access to museums, galleries, public libraries, and community arts and sports programmes.

​

• Replace able-bodied working-age benefits with a living wage job guarantee, guaranteeing 40 hours of work at the national living wage with local authorities.
